This is one of the moments in SPN that really gets to me. Because after everything they’ve gone through in s4 and the fight that they had just before this, when the ground opens up, look at how they reach for each other. Not because they’re falling, but because that’s their natural response. To hold on to each other.
This is one of my favorite moments in the entire series. Whatever has happened in the intervening days, whatever complications have arisen, whatever their fears for the changes they’ve seen in the other… at the foundation of that is this. It’s the same impulse, blind, automatic, simultaneous, to get ready to protect the other, and to reach out for support at the same time. “Get out of the way, Sammy.” “Get out of the way, Dean.”
